What's New in May

Happy May! Here are a few things to entice you.

Serendipity Needles are handmade in Rhode Island. We love to support this domestic business, because they provide work opportunities for mentally challenged adults, who sand and finish the needles. You can read more about Serendipity Needles here.

Here are some of the yarn bowls we currently have in stock from Wichita Pottery. You can support local artisans, and have the most beautiful, useful tool. A yarn bowl sits next to you and keeps your yarn ball from rolling away,

Berroco Weekend DK is an exciting yarn for the spring and summer. Lightweight, machine washable (a blend of cotton & acrylic) it's perfect for all kinds of summer baby projects, tank tops, t-shirts, and light scarves to wear when the air conditioning is set too low at the office. Aren't these colors happy & summery?

Here is one of the patterns from Berroco for Weekend DK, a tank top called Aport

Marching on...

Here are some more pictures of Florafil, the yarn I wrote about in the last post:

We are starting a couple of new clubs!
Shawl Club, which is starting now, will feature a new project every three months. You can join anytime you like, and the project, Verge, will be featured until the end of June, when we will announce our summer shawl. For details on membership and discounts, see our webpage.

Verge
Our other new club, Literary Knits, is just coming together. It will be a combined book and knitting club, where you will knit a project from the book, Literary Knits, and read the book that inspired the pattern. The membership and discount structure will be the same, but the meeting places are yet to be determined. Drop us a line if you're interested, and we'll get you in touch with the club's organizers.

oh-my-gosh-this-yarn-is-so-beautiful

I can't believe I left the shop with only one picture of it.

The yarn company is Made in America Yarns. The yarn is called Florafil Super Soft Cotton. It's a bulky cotton that comes 125 yds/100 g and knits 3.5 sts/4" on size 10 needles. It's 97% cotton, 3% nylon (there's a fine nylon wrap around the cotton roving).

It's amazing. The colors are extraordinary. There are variegated and solid shades. Here's a link to the company's website and color card, but really you have to just come into the shop and see it yourself.

Tamara is using the ball pictured above to make a baby sack. (Cocoon, photo prop, you know what I'm talking about.)

Here's a sweet little 2-skein knitted baby blanket pattern. You should also just check out the Pattern Ideas page on Ravelry.

One pattern that I know would look AMAZING in this yarn is the Groovy Little Baby Blanket.

Spring, Sweet Spring

March starts tomorrow! We're closer to spring, and starting to lighten up the fibers and colors around here.

We are proud to introduce Tahki Cotton Classic, a yarn with a great reputation among crocheters and knitters for its sheen, durability, and versatility. Our first shop sample is this adorable cardigan, made by Tamara. The pattern, called Bella Rebekah, is available in the shop for $8.95. That might seem pricey compared to what you usually pay, but this pattern comes with exceptional support, including videos, to help you every step of the way. Tamara loves this pattern so much, she's going to make a sweater in every weight of yarn we have.

Cotton Classic comes in a zillion colors, we have started with 15, and will add more as the weather gets warmer.

How cute are these HiyaHiya point protectors? They're pandas knitting little socks. Seriously. They come in large and small.

Incidentally, that's a new color of Malabrigo Worsted Merino there in the background, called Lettuce. We got a few semi-solid colors this week, including grey and pink.

Also from Malabrigo, a little Sock. (Not much, I only order what they have on hand, it's quicker that way. This is what was available.)

I just finished knitting this awesome shawl, called Criss Cross, out of another new yarn, Berroco Floret. I LOVE THIS YARN. It is so soft, and has such beautiful drape. I want to knit a million things out of it. Right now.

I'm looking forward to showing you new and exciting things as they arrive. We're introducing a line of cotton yarn called Made in America. As the name implies, they are domestically produced yarns. We are getting some gorgeous chunky cotton, kettle dyed in amazing, vibrant colors. I'll also be talking up the Sock Club and the soon-to-be-introduced Shawl Club.

New Projects

Here's the finished project: Lido! Using our new Tempo yarn.

Here's a great way to combine regular, worsted weight yarn and self-ruffling yarn. This pattern is called Cha Cha Ruffles.

This scarf, the Twister, combines two different kinds of ruffling yarns.
